Men?s golf in 16th place after first day of Border Olympics

LAREDO The UTSA men’s golf team turned in a team scorecard of 311-306 (617) on Friday and the Roadrunners stand in 16th place at the Border Olympics, which is being played at the Laredo Country Club (7,125 yards/par 72).

Senior Emiliano Martinez, a Laredo native, paced the Birds with two-round score of 151 (76-75). Meanwhile, freshmen Mitchell Griffin and Taylor Koser trailed Martinez by two strokes at 153 and fellow first-year players Nicko Dodd and Austin Struble logged a 160 and 162, respectively.
“We were expecting a better morning round, butwhen you have four freshmen in the lineup, you never know what you’llget,” head coach John Knauer said. “It's all a learning experience for them and we'll take the good with the bad and learn from it.”

UTSA concludes play on Saturday morning with the final 18 holes.
