Freshman Sarah Adams' 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 5 singles drew UTSA to within one on Tuesday.
SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA women’s tennis team suffered a 4-3 setback against Southeastern Louisiana on Tuesday at the UTSA Tennis Center.
The Roadrunners (3-7, 0-3 SLC) dropped their third consecutive match to open the Southland Conference slate, while the Lady Lions improved to 3-5 on the year and 1-2 in league play.
SLU won two of the three doubles matches for the early 1-0 advantage.
Sophomore Micaela Silva and freshman Vivian Carrillo won 8-4 against Audrey Chelini and Morgane Dadot at No. 1, but the Lady Lions secured the point with back-to-back wins at the other two spots.
In singles action, Dadot put Southeastern up 2-0 with her 6-1, 6-1 win over Carrillo at the No. 4 position. Chelini then gave SLU a 3-0 cushion when she came off the court with a straight sets victory (6-2, 6-0) against Silva at the top spot.
Facing a 3-0 deficit, UTSA battled back with wins at the Nos. 5 and 6 slots.
Sophomore Katie Ottenbreit remained perfect in league play with her 6-2, 7-5 win against Annika Hanke at No. 6 and freshman Sarah Adams won her No. 5 tilt in straight sets (6-3, 7-5) to trim the deficit to one.
However, the Lady Lions clinched the match when Camille Pilon held off freshman Kavya Menon, 6-2, 7-6.
UTSA returns to action this weekend with a pair of home conference matches against UT Arlington and Texas State.
