Senior Dana Mecke became the third Roadrunner to set a school record at this weekend's New Balance Invitational.

NEW YORK CITY —  Senior Dana Mecke broke the third school record of the weekend to highlight action for the UTSA women’s track & field team on Saturday's final day at the New Balance Invitational.

Mecke clocked a 4:49.82 to break Katie Poindexter’s seven-year-old UTSA standard (4:50.73) in the mile. It marked a near-five-second improvement over her previous personal-best of 4:54.77 turned in at the Houston Invitational/Multis last weekend.

It also was the third school record broken by the Roadrunners at the prestigious meet, as Mecke joined sophomore Kayla Pratt and freshman Zaquita McClanahan, who set UTSA marks in the 5,000 meters (17:23.21) and shot put (45-9/13.94m), respectively.

Senior Pernilla Savestrand also registered a season best in the mile, clocking a 4:58 for sixth place in the 39-person field won by UCLA’s Shannon Murakami.

In other action, freshman Eboni Johnson skipped to a fourth-place measure of 38-11 ¾/11.88m in the triple jump, while the 1,600-meter relay team of junior Shavonne Armbrister, freshmen Briony Miller and Marissa Cooksey and sophomore Rebecca Crain took eighth place in 3:51.27.

Meanwhile, freshman Brooke Townzen improved her own school record in the pole vault at the Houston All-Comers on Saturday. The Burleson native topped 11-5 ¾ (3.50m) to finish seventh, a 10-centimeter improvement over her previous personal best of 3.40m.

The Roadrunners are off until the Southland Conference Indoor Championships, which are slated for Feb. 26-27 in Norman, Okla.
