Sophomore Katie Ottenbreit won in both singles and doubles on Saturday.
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Sophomore Katie Ottenbreit put forth her best effort in Saturday’s match against Montana, but it wasn’t enough, as the UTSA women’s tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision.
The afternoon started out rough for UTSA, as the Grizzlies won the doubles point.
Montana clinched the point with wins at the Nos. 1 and 2 spots, but Ottenbreit teamed with freshman Kavya Menon to defeat Constance Alexander and Cara Lehman, 8-2, to give UTSA some momentum heading into singles play.
UTSA suffered losses at each of the top four slots, which gave UM the victory.
Junior Caroline Dedering took her No. 3 contest into a tie-breaker, but Amanda Bran was able to post a 6-4, 7-6 (5), 10-4 victory. Sophomore Micaela Silva also made a valiant effort at the No. 1 position against Rebecca Bran but fell just short 4-6, 6-1, 2-6.
Meanwhile, Menon beat Lauren Gibson in straight sets (6-3, 6-2) at the No. 5 spot, while Ottenbreit defeated Lehman in a 6-0, 6-0 whitewashing. However, it was all Grizzlies from the point forward.
UTSA will conclude its weekend four-match road trip at 1 p.m. (CT) on Sunday against Air Force.
