Senior Jorge Delgado's victory at No. 6 singles on Saturday ended UTSA's four-match losing streak.
SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA men’s tennis team snapped a four-match losing streak with a 7-0 shutout of Abilene Christian on Saturday morning at the UTSA Tennis Center.
The Roadrunners evened their season mark to 4-4 overall, while the Wildcats dropped to 3-4 on the season.
The Birds struck first by easily winning with the doubles point.
The tandem of sophomore Pedro Zanotelli and junior Daniel Moreiras posted an 8-5 victory against Luke Hawk and John Strahl at the No. 1 spot. The freshman duo of Tyler Brown and Hugo Guanais gave UTSA the point with an 8-4, come-from-behind win versus Eldad Campbell and Jared Hope at No. 3. The pair rallied from a 4-1 deficit by winning the final seven games.
The Roadrunners continued their dominance by winning all six singles matches.
Brown was picked up a 6-3, 6-1 win against Campbell at the top spot, while senior Rodgido Morgado scored a straight-sets win (6-2, 6-3) at the No. 2 position. Senior Jorge Delgado gave UTSA the match after cruising past Brett Proctor, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 6. Moreiras and Zanotelli both won their matches at the No. 4 and No. 5 spots, respectively.
UTSA continues its five-match home stand on Friday, March 5, against Oregon.
