No. 8 Texas hands UTSA 7-0 loss on Saturday

AUSTIN —  No. 8 Texas handed the UTSA men’s tennis team its fourth consecutive loss with a 7-0 win on Saturday afternoon at the Penick-Allison Tennis Center.

The Roadrunners (3-4), who opened the spring season with three straight wins, have dropped their last four matches. Meanwhile, the Longhorns improved to 8-1 on the year.

Texas began the match winning the doubles point for the 1-0 lead, Ed Corrie and Kellen Damico came off the court with an 8-1 win against freshman Martin Ayala and sophomore Pedro Zanotelli at the No. 1 position. UT then won the point after an 8-3 win at the No. 3 slot.

The Longhorns continued their dominance in singles action, as Vasko Mladenov gave Texas a 2-0 advantage with his 6-0, 6-2 win versus Ayala at No. 3. Corrie made it a 3-0 margin when he defeated freshman Tyler Brown in straight sets (6-2, 6-2) at the top spot. Chen gave the Longhorns the win with a 6-3, 6-2 win against Daniel Moreiras at No. 4.

UTSA returns home for the start of a five-match home stand that begins on Saturday, Feb. 27, against Abilene Christian.
