TAMPA, Fla. — No. 37 South Florida handed the UTSA men’s tennis team its third consecutive loss on Sunday, defeating the Roadrunners 7-0.
The Bulls (2-4) charged out to an early 1-0 lead by sweeping the doubles competition. Sophomore Pedro Zanotelli and freshman Martin Ayala dropped their No. 1 tilt, 8-3, to Thomas Estrada and Peter Frank. USF took the doubles point when Wael Kilani and Romain Deridder knocked out junior Max Stratmann and freshman Tyler Brown at No. 2, 8-5.
The Roadrunners’ struggles continued in singles play.
At No. 1, senior Rodrigo Morgado fell to Jamal Adderley, 6-1, 6-1. Fellow senior Jorge Delgado dropped his first match this season, a 6-1, 6-2, decision at No. 5. Delgado is now 5-1 on the season in singles play.
The Bulls sealed the victory when Kilani defeated Brown at No. 2, 6-2, 6-2. The Birds lost their last three singles matches en route to their toughest defeat of the season.
UTSA will be back in action at 6 p.m. on Saturday when they travel to Austin for a contest with nationally-ranked Texas.
