Men?s tennis off to Sunshine State for pair of weekend matches

SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA men’s tennis team is on the road in Tampa, Fla., against No. 37 South Florida at 1 p.m. (CT) on Friday and Florida Atlantic at noon the next day.

The Roadrunners (3-1) are coming off their first loss of the season, a 4-3 defeat at the hands of St. Edward’s this past Sunday. The Birds battled back from a 3-1 deficit to tie the match, but freshman Martin Ayala eventually fell to Ned Boone at the top singles spot, giving the Hilltoppers the victory.

Head coach Dr. Oliver Trittenwein said he is looking forward to the two matches in southern Florida and a golden opportunity for his team to redeem its first loss.

“We’ve never beaten South Florida,” Trittenwein said. “We’ve had close matches against them in the past and it’s going to be a great chance for the guys to get away, do some team bonding and face some really solid teams. I feel like the guys are up for the challenge.”
