UTSA to serve up spring season on Sunday at North Texas

SAN ANTONIO The UTSA women's tennis team will serve up the spring season at North Texas on Sunday. The noon matchup will be played at the Las Colinas Country Club in Irving due to weather concerns.

The Roadrunners enter the new campaign with only three returnees from last year's squad that won 16 matches.

Junior Caroline Dedering and sophomore Micaela Silva will lead the effort as team captains. Sophomore Katie Ottenbreit also adds experience to the UTSA roster.

Dedering enters her third season with the Roadrunners coming off of a 14-9 singles record including an 8-3 mark in Southland Conference play. The Stockholm, Sweden, native also paired with Monika Drabkova to win nine matches at the No. 2 doubles spot, including four in league play.

Silva had an impressive debut last spring. The Lima, Peru, native registered a 17-6 overall singles record during her inaugural season which ranked second on the team. She also had an eight-match winning streak from March 18-April 10 and teamed up with Karen Scida for a 5-5 doubles record in league play.

"I expect great things from them this season," fourth-year head coach Erin Bosiclair-Scott said. "They both have really stepped up in terms of maturity."

UTSA welcomes freshmen Sarah Adams, Vivian Carrillo, Mariel Maffezzolli, Kavya Menon, Lauren Springer (redshirt) and Nicci Yvanovich to the team this season.

"This year, we have five freshmen on the team, which should make for an interesting year," Boisclair-Scott said. "The girls have worked really hard and are ready to start playing. All in all, we are excited to get this year started."
