Roadrunners return to track this weekend at Houston Invitational/Multis

SAN ANTONIO — TheUTSA men's andwomen's track & field teams return to action this weekend when theytravel to the Bayou City for the Houston Invitational/Multis.

Competitiongetsunderway at noon on Friday with the multi-events. Field events (polevault/long jump/weight throw) will go off at 3 p.m. and runningcompetition (400m/200m/DMR)commences 90 minutes later. The final day kicks off at 9 a.m. the nextmorning with the shot put and runs throughout the afternoon, while theremainder of the men's heptathlon starts an hour later. The rest of therunning events begin at 11 a.m. with the 5,000 meters and wraps upeight hours later with the 1,600m relay (click here for complete meet schedule).

Otherschoolsparticipating in the meet include Houston, Houston Baptist, IncarnateWord, Lamar, Louisiana-Lafayette, McNeese State, Nicholls, NorthwesternState, Northwood,Prairie View A&M, Rice, Southeastern Louisiana, Southern-NewOrleans, Southern Mississippi, Southwest Christian, Stephen F. Austin,Texas-Pan American, Texas A&M-Kingsville, Texas Lutheran,Texas Southern and Texas State.

The UTSA men are off to afantastic start to the 2010 campaign, as the four-time defendingSouthland Conference Indoor Champion Roadrunners have seen fourathletes provisionally qualify for the NCAA Championships.

Leadingthe way is freshman Keith Benford, who currently ranks in a sixth-placetie nationally in the high jump with his season-opening school-recordclearance of 7-2 ¼/2.19m. Junior Devon Bond, meanwhile, sits 11th onthe NCAA's triple jump list with his program-record measurement of50-10 ¾/15.51m, which also was established at the Leonard HiltonMemorial. Senior All-American Teddy Williams is 12th on the national60m ledger following his record-breaking performance at last weekend'sTexas Tech Invitational. The reigning Southland Athlete of the Weekclocked a 6.23 in winning the 55m title and that time converts to a6.71 60m standard. Freshman Richard Garrett Jr. is the other UTSAathlete to appear on the NCAA chart, as he ranks 17th in the shot put(school-record 58-3 ¼/17.76m).

The women have seen a pair program marks fall in the season's first two meets, both of which have been set by true freshman.

Katie Bragg launched the 20-pound weight implement 56-2 ½/17.13m at last week's Texas Tech Invite to shatter the Roadrunners four-year-old mark.  Meanwhile, Brooke Townzen cleared 11-1 ¾/3.40m in her first collegiate meet and matched that standard last weekend.
