FRISCO — UTSA junior foward Ashleigh Franklin was named the Southland Conference Player of the Week by vote of the league’s sports information directors, the conference office announced Monday. Franklin is the first Roadrunner to receive weekly recognition this season.
Franklin averaged 23.5 points and nine rebounds per game at the UTSA New Year’s Classic in helping the Roadrunners to a 1-1 record. The Dallas native posted her team-leading sixth double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds and dished out a career-high six assists to go along with two blocks and two steals in the win against Maine on Dec. 29. Franklin then led UTSA in scoring with a career-best 29 points on 12-of-22 shooting from the floor against Louisiana Tech the following night. She had 26 of her 29 points in the second half, while also making 11 of her 12 field goals in the final frame.
UTSA concludes its non-conference schedule on Monday with a 7 p.m. contest at Rice.
