Rowland, Jewasko earn Southland Conference All-Academic accolades

FRISCO — Junior outside hitter Kendra Rowland and sophomore libero Kelsey Jewasko and were named to the 12-member Southland Conference All-Academic first team, the league office announced on Thursday.

A starter in all 31 matches this season, Rowland was UTSA's leader with1,087 attacks, 324 kills (2.72 kps) and 16 double-doubles (second SLC) this fall.The Antioch, Calif., native also ranked second on the team with 346 digs(2.91 dps). She recorded double-figure digs 20 times and slammedhome 10 or more winners in 17 contests. Rowland, who maintains a 3.70 grade-point average in management and communications, was one of just twoRoadrunners to see action in all 119 sets this fall. It marked the second year in a row that she was named to the league's top academic squad.

Jewasko, who also saw action in all 119 sets this year, led the Birds with 449 digs (3.77 dps) and ranked second with 23 service acesthis season. The San Antonio native had a career-high 31 digs in theBirds' Sept. 8 five-set win against Cal State Bakersfield and she was in double figures 25 times this year, including the last 20outings. Her five aces against Weber State (Sept. 12) were a careerhigh, as were her eight assists against Northwestern State on Oct. 22. Jewasko sports a 3.81 gpa in interdisciplinary studies.

Head coach Laura Neugebauer-Groff now has coached 16 all-academic honorees in her eight seasons at UTSA.
