Darkness suspends opening day of The Challenge at Onion Creek

The UTSA women’s golf team currently sits tied for seventh place as day one action was called off midway through the second round of  The Challenge at Onion Creek due to darkness. The teams will resume play tomorrow at 7:30 a.m. followed by the final 18 holes.

The Roadrunners posted a first-round team score of 292 with several holes remaining in the second frame.

Sophomore Summer Batiste sits tied for 10th place after shooting an opening round of 73. The Spring native fired three birdies and an eagle in the first round.

Meanwhile, senior Shelly Martinez and sophomore Shannon Jungman registered scorecards of 71 and 73, respectively, with a couple of holes remaining. Sophomore Bruna Spengler and senior Madison McClain also were in action. Spengler posted a 76 on the day and McClain wrapped her first round with a 79.
