Women?s tennis concludes fall season over the weekend

Freshman Kavya Menon was victorious in both singles and doubles play on Saturday.

SAN MARCOS — The UTSA women’s tennis team concluded its fall season last weekend at the Texas State Invitational.

Freshmen Kavya Menon and Nicci Yvanovich led the Roadrunners in doubles action, defeating Amanda Alvarado of Texas State and Elizabeth Jacobi of St. Edward’s, 8-3.

In singles play, the day started slow for the Roadrunners, as sophomore Micaela Silva was outlasted by Melissa Hadad of Texas State, 5-7, 6-2, 10-5, while fellow sophomore Katie Ottenbreit lost to Texas-Pan American's Andrea Salvetovva in a hard-fought tiebreaker (0-6, 6-0, 10-5). However, the afternoon made an upward turn when junior Caroline Dedering handed Audrey Tompkins (St. Edward's) a straight-set defeat (7-5, 6-3) and Menon carried her doubles success into a three-set win over UTPA's Reetta Raty (6-3, 2-6, 10-5).
