AUSTIN — The UTSA men’s tennis team continued its fall campaign over the weekend at the Texas Invitational. The two-day tournament featured players from Lamar, Laredo Community College, Rice, St. Edward’s, Texas, Texas A&M and UT Arlington.
Senior Jorge Delgado and sophomore Shariq Khan teamed up to compete in doubles play. The tandem fell to Rice's Jonathan Chang and Isamu Tachibana, 8-2. Meanwhile, junior Daniel Moreiras and freshman Hugo Guanais sqaured off against Vasil Mladenov and Jon Wiegand of Texas, but they were defeated, 8-2.
In the Singles B draw, Khan advanced to the consolation quarterfinals by defeating Lamar's James Thorp in straight sets (6-2, 6-3). Guanais advanced to the second round in the consolation bracket with a win over Boris Barrios of St. Edward's. Delgado advanced to the consolation round of the open draw and moved on to the semifinals with a comeback victory over UT Arlington's Brieuc Hamon (1-6, 7-6, 1-0). However, Delgado fell short in the semifinals against Laredo's Cledson Caravalho, 6-2, 6-2.
The Roadrunners will conclude their fall season in three weeks at the local Greentree Tour.
