UTSA falls to I-35 rival Texas State in San Marcos

SAN MARCOS — The UTSA soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision at I-35 rival Texas State in Southland Conference action Friday night.

The Roadrunners, who now are without a win in their last five matches, dropped to 9-9-2 overall and 4-3-2 in league play, while the Southland Regular Season Champion Bobcats improved to 13-5-1 and 8-0-1 in conference action.

Texas State took the early 1-0 lead when Lauren Lewis received a pass from Andrea Grifo from the right side of the box and knocked it in at the 21-minute mark of the first half. The Bobcats increased the lead to 2-0 off the foot of Taylor Kelley with in the 38th minute and the advantage swelled to three when Erica Michaud netted her eighth goal of the season at the 54-minute mark of the second half.

Junior Chelsea Zimmerman put UTSA on the board with her fifth goal of the season. Sophomore Taylor Padia sent the ball into the box off the corner kick and Zimmerman headed over Texas State’s goalkeeper at the 72-minute mark of the frame.

The Roadrunners will play in the Southland Tournament in Natchitoches, La., next week.
