Ayala, Brown have good showing at Wilson/ITA Regional

COLLEGE STATION — Freshmen Martin Ayala and TylerBrown had good showings at last weekend's Wilson/ITA Regional, as both players advanced to the quarterfinals of theSouth Central Regional consolation bracket.

Brown got his day startedwith a 6-0, 6-2 win against Jason Lateko from UT Arlington. The NewBraunfels native then won a three-set match against Dmitry Minkin ofUTA. Brown won the first set 7-5, fell 6-0 in the second frame but won the tiebreaker, 1-0, to move on to the quarterfinals.

Meanwhile, Ayala got past Prairie View A&M’sChristopher Jordan in straight sets (6-2, 6-1). The Quito, Ecuador,native continue his winning ways in the second round with a convincingwin against Andy Wang of Rice to advance to the quarters.

In Saturday’s action of the main singles draw, juniorMax Stratmann, Ayala and Brown all were in action.

Stratmann fell to TexasA&M’s John Lewis by scores of 6-4, 6-4. Brown won a toughthree-set against Jack Seider of Texas A&M. He then fell to TCU's Marius Cirteain striaght sets. Ayala picked upa 6-4, 6-1 decision to Texas Tech’s Jeff Bryan, before falling to Jeff Dadamo from Texas A&M by scores of 6-2,6-1.

In doubles play, Ayala and sophomore Daniel Moreiraswon their first-round match, 8-5, against Kristen Powell and Craig Wiltzof Prairie View A&M before dropping a 8-5 decision to RaonyCarvalho and Rafeal Garcia from Texas Tech.

The duo of Brown and Stratmann collected an 8-1victory against Jose Garcia and Airron Williams from Prairie ViewA&M but then lost, 8-4, to Ed Corrie and Kellen Damico fromTexas.
