Roadrunners to host McNeese State, Lamar this weekend

SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA soccer team set to host Southland Conference foes McNeese State Friday at 7 p.m. and Lamar two days later at the UTSA Recreational Complex.
 
The Roadrunners (7-6, 2-0 SLC) are off to their best start in conference play at 2-0 and have won their last four matches, including three of the four coming on the road.
 
The Birds opened league play with a 4-2 win at Northwestern State last Friday night. Senior Halee Hamm, who was tabbed Southland’s Offensive Player of the Week, netted two goals in that win. UTSA then posted its fourth shutout of the season with 2-0 win at Central Arkansas Sunday afternoon.
 
Hamm and sophomore Taylor Padia lead the team with four goals apiece, while junior Chelsea Zimmerman tops the squad with three assists on the season.
 
McNeese State (4-7-2, 0-2 SLC) fell in its conference opener 2-1 against Sam Houston State on Friday and then was dealt a 1-0 loss at hands of Stephen F. Austin two days later. The Cowgirls lead the all-time series, 4-1, against the Roadrunners. McNeese State has won the last four meetings, including a 3-1 win in the semifinals of last year’s Southland Conference Tournament in Lake Charles, La.
 
Lamar (1-9-1, 0-2 SLC) is coming off a pair of conference losses last weekend. The Lady Cardinals suffered a 2-1 setback by the Ladyjacks in double overtime Friday night. The Bearkats kept Lamar winless over the weekend with a 1-0 win on Sunday. UTSA holds a 2-0 all-time series advantage against Lamar and have outscored the Cards, 4-0.
