SAN ANTONIO — UTSA head coach Rae Rippetoe-Blair announced the hiring of KC Cowgill as women’s basketball director of operations on Wednesday.

The Grand Island, Neb., native will be in charge of team travel, film exchange and community service outings.

Cowgill spent last season as an assistant coach at Western Illinois. Her responsibilities included working with the guards, recruiting, scouting and team travel. She was instrumental in working with Amanda Walker, who earned honorable mention All-Summit League honors that year.

Prior to Western Illinois, she spent two seasons (2006-08) as an assistant coach at Centenary College. Cowgill served as an assistant coach with Kickapoo High School in Springfield, Mo., in 2006.

Cowgill was a two-year letterwinner at Missouri State (2003-05) where she was named team co-captain her last two seasons. She helped lead the Bears to the 2005 Missouri Valley Conference Championship and the 2005 WNIT Championship. She was tabbed Missouri Valley Newcomer of the Year while leading her squad to a regular season and tournament conference championship in 2004.

During the 2004-05 season, she led the nation in three-point shooting percentage (.532, 74-139) and was second in the nation in 2003-04 (.471, 65-138).

Before joining the Bears, Cowgill played her first two collegiate seasons at Nebraska where she was named team captain in 2001-02.

A 2000 graduate of Grand Island Catholic Central High School, Cowgill excelled in three sports and was named Nebraska’s Athlete of the Year in 1999-2000. During that year, she was named to Nebraska’s Super State First Team in basketball. Cowgill is also the state’s second all-time leading scorer.
