Freshmen lead Roadrunners in fall season opener

WACO — Freshmen Tyler Brown and Hugo Guanais led the UTSA men’s tennis team last weekend in its fall debut at the Baylor Invitational.

Brown advanced to the top 32 in the open singles ‘A’ division with a convincing victory over the 12th seed, Julian Bley, of Baylor (6-3, 6-2). Guanais defeated Stephen Katrein of Air Force, 6-4, 5-7, 6-3, to advance into the top 32 of open singles ‘B’ division.

After receiving a bye into the top 32, junior Max Stratmann won his way into the sweet 16 by downing Cameron Nash of TCU (6-4, 6-2).

Meanwhile, senior Rodrigo Morgado fell in consolation play to the hands of Alastair Barnes of Tulsa in a tough 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (6) loss, and again to Dadamo and Lunt while paired with Brown in the doubles ‘A’ division.

In doubles ‘B’, Stratmann paired with Jorge Delgado and Guanais teamed with Shariq Khan but both teams dropped 8-6 decisions.

UTSA will be back in action from Oct. 2-4 at the ITA All-American in Tulsa, Okla.
