UTSA concludes UTA Waterchase Invitational in 17th place

ARLINGTON — The UTSA men’s golf team wrapped the UTA Waterchase Invitational in 17th place with a final team score of 920 (305-302-313) held at the Waterchase Golf Course (7,304 yards/par 72).

“We didn’t handle the conditions well today,” second-year head coach John Knauer said. “We will grow from this and get better. This year is about learning to play at a higher level. We are going to take baby steps each week. Some of those steps are backwards, but overall we will learn to walk.”

Senior Emiliano Martinez was the Roadrunners top finisher on the day. The Laredo native turned a 75 on the final round for a two-day tally of 222 and tied for 26th. Sophomore Lewis Chong ended his day with a scorecard of 227, while senior Ryan Kiel registered a three-round total of 233.

Meanwhile, freshman Talyor Koser capped off his Roadrunner debut with a pair of 78s and an 82 for a 238 and sophomore Payne Wilkie logged in a 248 (85-78-85) for the tournament.

UTSA travels to Palm Desert, Calif., for the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate on Oct. 5-6.
