Junior Caroline Dedering led UTSA at last weekend's Harvard Classic.
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — Junior Caroline Dedering defeated Ina Kauppila of Boston College in Flight A singles to lead the UTSA women’s tennis team’s effort last weekend at the Harvard Classic in Cambridge, Mass.
In the first round of Flight A singles matches, Dedering posted a convincing 6-0, 6-2 victory over Kauppila. The Stockholm, Sweden, native fell in the second round to Kristin Norton of Harvard, 6-2, 6-1. Dedering then battled Harvard’s Agnes Sibilski, but lost in the third set tiebreaker, 6-3, 3-6, 10-8.
Junior Miceala Silva fell at the hands of Katharine Attwell of Boston College in two hard fought 6-4 sets, and Carrillo dropped her match against Agnes Sibilski of Harvard, 6-0, 6-4.
In other singles action, freshman Vivian Carillo had a tough battle against Francine Whu of Boston University, in which she fell 6-1, 6-1. Freshman Sarah Adams competed in Flight B singles matches, but fell to Alex Lehman of Harvard, 6-0, 6-1.
In doubles play, Dedering and Carrillo paired up against Caroline Davis and Louise Laciny of Harvard, but the duo dropped a tough 9-7 decision. Silva and Adams lost a close 8-6 set to Petra Santini and Jessie Linero of Boston University.
The Runners return to the courts this Friday-Sunday, Sept. 25-27, when they travel to Houston to compete in the Rice Classic.
