SAN ANTONIO — Sophomore Katie Dugan and senior Halee Hamm each scored a goal apiece, but SMU scored three times in the second half to collect the 4-2 win Friday night at the UTSA Recreational Complex.
The Roadrunners dropped to 3-5 on the season, while the Mustangs improved to 2-4 on the year.
UTSA and SMU combined for five of the six goals in the second half. SMU took the 2-1 advantage when Leslie Briggs knocked it in from five yards out with 61:32 in the frame.
Sophomore Katie Dugan put the Roadrunners on the board with her first goal of the season at the 63-minute mark. The Mustangs then added back-to-back goals to take a 4-1 cushion.
The Birds got within two goals when senior Halee Hamm’s header got past SMU’s goalkeeper off a corner kick from junior Chelsea Zimmerman at the 72-minute mark.
SMU struck first when Logan May capitalize off a rebound to give the Mustangs a 1-0 lead at the 24-minute mark of the first half.
Dugan and Hamm led the offense with one goal apiece, while Dugan posted three shots all on goal. Freshman Dacia Webb collected seven saves on 16 shots faced on the night. Zimmerman recorded her first assist of the season.
UTSA returns to action against Baylor on Sunday at the UTSA Recreational Complex. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
