SAN ANTONIO — Izabela Kozon and Ashley Mead each registered a match-high 11 kills and the pair led Middle Tennessee to a 25-12, 25-14, 25-21 sweep of UTSA in Saturday's finale of this weekend's UTSA Classic.
The Blue Raiders (6-6), who hit .271 as a team while limiting the Roadrunners to a .024 hitting percentage, ended their six-match losing streak with the victory.
It was all Middle Tennessee in the early going, as it jumped out to big leads in the each of the first two sets to take a commanding 2-0 advantage into the intermission.
The third frame was much closer, as it featured nine ties and a pair of lead changes, but UTSA (4-9) was unable to avoid the sweep and its fourth loss in the past five contests.
Leslie Clark handed out 32 assists, had a match-best two service aces for the Blue Raiders and she tied Kozon for the team lead with eight digs.
Middle hitter Stefanie Robbins led the Birds with five winners and five blocks, including a career-high three solos.
The Roadrunners open Southland Conference play on Thursday night when they travel to the Metroplex to face UT Arlington (4-7). First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Texas Hall.
