SAN ANTONIO — No. 3 Washington kept its perfect season going with a 25-13, 25-14, 25-20 victory against UTSA on Thursday night at the Convocation Center. The match was the first of three this weekend at the UTSA Classic.
The Huskies, who hit .383 (44 kills/8 errors/94 attacks) as a team, improved to a perfect 9-0 and have swept all nine of their opponents to open the year.
Washington opened the contest with an easy 12-point win on the strength of a .233 hitting percentage while limiting the Roadrunners (4-8) to red type on the box score (-.105).
The Huskies continued their offensive onslaught one set later, recording a .592 hitting percentage (18/2/27), en route to an 11-point triumph.
The third and final frame was much more competitive, as UTSA hit .273 to go along with 18 digs, but UW proved to be too much and it went on to finish off the sweep.
Middle hitter Briana Mason led the Birds with seven kills and she added a block solo and a pair of block assists.
Becky Perry paced the Huskies on offense and defense with a match-best 12 winners and four block assists.
The tournament continues at 5 p.m. on Friday when Washington faces Middle Tennessee (5-5). UTSA will be back in action on Saturday when it concludes the event against the Blue Raiders at 1 p.m.
