Dillon gives Roadrunners 1-0 win against Utah State

Junior Allison Dillon scored in the first minute and UTSA held on for a 1-0 victory on Friday night.

SAN ANTONIO — Junior forward Allison Dillon’s goal within the first minute of the match gave the UTSA women’s soccer team a 1-0 win against Utah State Friday night in its home opener at the UTSA Recreational Complex.

“It was good to come out in front of our home crowd and give them a thrilling win,” freshman goalkeeper Dacia Webb said. “Utah State came out strong and picked up the speed of the match in the second half, but we came out just as strong and stayed within our game plan. Our defense was solid throughout the match.”

The Roadrunners collected their third win of the season to even their mark at 3-3, while the Aggies saw their ledger fall to 3-2-1 on the year.

The Aggies tallied 17 shots attempts, 12 of which came in the second half. Webb, who posted her second straight shutout, kept the Aggies from tying the match with three consecutive saves early on in the stanza and two key stops in the final 10 minutes of the match to preserve the win for the Birds.

UTSA struck first on Dillon’s first goal of the season when she knocked in off a corner kick within the first minute of the match. Freshman Kara Hoffman was credited with the assist.

Dillon and junior midfielder Laurel Dierking collected three shots apiece, while Hoffman posted her first assist of the season. Webb picked up her second consecutive shutout of the season, while collected eight saves on the night.

UTSA returns to action Sunday afternoon against Rice at the UTSA Recreational Complex.
