SAN ANTONIO — UTSA women’s soccer team begins a four-match home stand this weekend with a pair of contests against Utah State on Friday (7p.m.) and Rice two days later (1 p.m.).
The Roadrunners (2-3) are coming its first shutout win of the season at Houston Baptist last Friday. Junior Chelsea Zimmerman scored the game-winner with less than 10 minutes to play in the match. Freshman goalie Dacia Webb, who collected Southland Conference Goalkeeper of the Week honors, picked up her first career shutout of the season.
Meanwhile, senior defender Ezinne Okpo also picked up Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Week accolades after anchoring the Roadrunners defense that allowed five shots on goals for the entire match at Houston Baptist.
Utah State visits the Alamo City sporting a 3-1-1 overall record. The Aggies are coming off a,1-0, loss to No. 20 Oklahoma State on Sept. 4 and a tied against Wyoming two days later. Utah State leads the all-time series, 1-0, versus the Roadrunners, including last season’s meeting in Logan, Utah.
Rice (1-3-1) split its two matches last week. The Owls picked up their first win of the season at Stephen F. Austin on Sept. 4, before dropping a 2-1 decision against TCU on Sept. 6 in Houston. Rice leads the all-time series, 1-0, against UTSA. The Roadrunners suffered a 5-1 defeat against the Owls last season in Houston.
