Head coach Laura Neugebauer-Groff won the 114th game of her eight-year career on Tuesday night and tied Dave Hawk's 14-year-old program record.

SAN ANTONIO — Middle hitter Briana Mason hit .846 on 13 attacks (11 kills/0 errors) and UTSA won its 2009 home opener with a 25-14, 25-11, 18-25, 25-18 victory against Prairie View A&M on Tuesday night at the Convocation Center.

Mason's near-school-record effort helped eighth-year head coach Laura Neugebauer-Groff win her 114th game and tie Dave Hawk's 14-year-old record for coaching victories, which was set from 1989-95.

Outside hitter Kendra Rowland recorded her third double-double of the year with a team-high 15 kills and 13 digs and it was the 38th of her career. Meanwhile, middle hitter Stefanie Robbins added nine winners, while setter Amber Brooks handed out 39 assists.

The Birds (2-2) got off to a quick start, winning the first two sets with relative ease.

Holding an 11-8 lead midway through the first frame, they closed out the stanza with a 14-6 run and were led by Mason's five kills in a half dozen swings.

UTSA came out firing one set later, posting a .464 hitting percentage on the strength of 15 kills and just a pair of errors in 28 swings. Robbins paced the Roadrunners with four winners in her five attacks.

The Lady Panthers (0-4) refused to go away quietly after intermission and they broke open a 15-all tie with a 13-3 set-ending run to pull within one.

However, UTSA was able to close things out a frame later, as Mason slammed home four kills in five attempts.

Prairie View A&M was led by Cheri Lindsay's 17 kills and Sapphire Reid's dozen digs.

The Roadrunners now have won all 14 meetings between the two programs.

UTSA is back in action this weekend when it travels to Waco for the Holiday Inn & Suites Baylor Classic. The Roadrunners open tournament play at 4 p.m. on Friday against No. 24 Purdue (2-1).
