No. 6 Aggies hand Roadrunners 3-0 loss on Sunday

COLLEGE STATION — The UTSA soccer team fell 3-0 to No. 6 Texas A&M in non-conference action Sunday afternoon at Aggie Soccer Stadium.

Texas A&M took the 2-0 lead when Kim Castleberry received a pass from Whitney Hooper and dribble pass UTSA’s defense to beat the goalkeeper at the 51-minute mark. Freshman Clare Jakubowski had her shot attempt stopped by Texas A&M’s goalkeeper at the 57-minute mark.

The Birds once again tried to get on the board, but senior Halee Hamm’s attempt was saved by the Aggies’ goalie at the 72-mintue mark and then sophomore Taylor Padia’s shot sealed wide two minutes later in the frame.

Texas A&M’s Catalina Clavijo gave the Aggies a 3-0 cushion at the 84-minute mark.

The Aggies scored first when Rachel Shipley knocked it in from 22 yards out at the 19-minute mark of the first half.

Freshman goalkeeper Dacia Webb tallied eight saves on 44 shot attempts. Junior Allison Dillon, Hamm, Jakobowski and Padia recorded a shot apiece for the Roadrunners.

UTSA concludes its season-opening five-match road trip at Houston Baptist on Friday, Sept. 4. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
