SAN ANTONIO — UTSA head women’s golf coach Carrie Cole announced her 2009-10 golf schedule on Monday The ledger is highlighted by its own event the Alamo Invitational and a trip to her alma mater Tennessee for the Mercedes-Benz Championship.
"I am proud to release the UTSA women's golf team's 2009-10tournament schedule," Cole said. "I believe it is one of the most competitiveschedule's in the history of UTSA women's golf to look forward to. Ourtoughest field this fall will be the University of Tennessee's event,the Mercedes Benz Women's Championship. Having said that, TexasA&M, Colorado, our home event and Texas State will also all bestrong tournaments with many nationally ranked teams in each field. The spring will be equally competitive and we will be fortunate totravel to some great places like Arizona and Florida."
The Roadrunners open their fall schedule at the Texas A&M Invitational the weekend of Sept. 11-13 in College Station, Texas. The Birds then head to Colorado for the Colorado Invitational on Oct. 5-6. Cole’s squad then travel to her alma mater of Tennessee for the Mercedes-Benz Championship on Oct. 15-16, in Knoxville, Tenn.
UTSA then returns to home to host its first tournament since the UTSA Rowdy Round-Up in the spring of 2006 with The Alamo Invitational held at Briggs Ranch Golf Course on Oct. 26-27. The Roadrunners wrap up the fall season at The Challenge at Onion Creek in Austin, Texas, on Nov. 2-3.
"This year will be our first year to host the Alamo Invitational atBriggs Ranch," Cole said. "Not only is Briggs Ranch a phenomenal place to host agolf tournament, but we were able to get numerous top teams to travelto San Antonio for the event. We will host Tennessee, Texas A&M,SMU, Notre Dame, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Middle Tennessee, Ole Miss, Texas State andBaylor. The team and I are not only excited to face such a talentedfield but also to showcase the great city of San Antonio and abeautiful golf course like Briggs Ranch."
In the spring, UTSA is slated for five tournaments beginning with the Koasati Pines Classic held in Kinder, La., on Feb. 15-16. The Roadrunners return to the links after a one week layoff at the UCF Challenge on March 1-2, in Orlando, Fla. The Birds visit Arizona for the Northern Migration Invitational co-hosted by Kansas State and Nebraska on March 15-17 in Floence, Ariz.
In April, UTSA heads to Waco, Texas for the Baylor Classic, before closing out the season at the Southland Conference Women’s Golf Championship on April 19-21, in Huntsville, Texas.
