UTSA is senior defender Celeste Carruth is beginningher fourth season at UTSA. The Midland native has been part of the UTSAWomen’s Soccer team since its inaugural season in 2006. She hasappeared in 58 career matches, while making 56 starts, and collectedeight assists. Carruth was an important component of a Roadrunnersdefense that posted a school-record nine shutouts in 2008. She took some time prior to Friday's season opener at Texas Tech to speak with goUTSA.com.
What is the team’s goal as you all head into the season?
"Winning a conference championship is our main goal.This season, the seniors are really pushing for it because it’s our lastyear."
What is your personal goal, besides winning a conference championship?
"My goals are to play and overcome injuries but alsoto be strong. Another goal is to keep our defense strong, neverbreak down and keep getting shutouts that we have been doing over theyears."
How has it been in those two-days, so far in this heat?
"It has been really hot and also been gettingsunburn. I have had some injuries to start the year, but to be outthere it’s still hot. I don’t mind the heat that much, because I don’tlike it when it rains and don’t enjoy rolling in the mud."
What did you do this past summer?
"I went to summer school and also worked on a campaignfor a city councilman. I had fun working on this campaign, because Igot a chance to work with different people in San Antonio. I got anopportunity to work in East San Antonio and focus on the revitalizingthat part of town."
What are some of your plans after graduating?
"I actually want to do police work, so sometime inthe fall I want to go take the test and head to the police academy. Ireally made my mind up when I was working in this campaign. Theopportunity to help out people is something I liked to do. I still dohave my back up plan of getting my master’s and going into occupationaltherapy."
