LUBBOCK — UTSA soccer team dropped a 5-0 decision at Texas Tech in non-conference action at John Walker Complex Friday night in both teams' season opener.
“We did some good things out there tonight,” head coach Steve Ballard said. “Texas Tech is a good team, but we fought very well until the end and I was pleased with how we played. I think we are on the right track and we're looking forward to Sunday.”
Texas Tech’s Brittney Harrison scored the first goal of the match to give the Red Riders a 1-0 lead within the first four minutes of the first half. The Red Raiders then pushed the lead to 2-0 when Dawn Ward received a pass from Zhaleh Rezaie with 15:27 to go in the frame.
Texas Tech struck for the third time in the half when Sarah Ellison knocked in the ball from 20 yards out over the outstretched hands of UTSA goalkeeper Dacia Webb at the 27-minute mark.
Maegan Wilber added Tech’s fourth goal of the match off a misplayed ball at the 53-minute mark of the second half. Karen De Leon netted the fifth goal at the 87-minute mark.
