SAN ANTONIO ? The 2009 Roadrunner Athletic Fund annual donor drive officially kicks off this month at The University of Texas at San Antonio. The Roadrunner Athletic Fund directly supports the mission of the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics by providing opportunities for student-athletes to achieve success on the field, in the classroom and post-graduation.
Contributions to the Roadrunner Athletic Fund provide direct scholarship support to student-athletes participating in all 17 intercollegiate sports, including the establishment of UTSA Football. Current scholarship costs for the Athletics Department to the University for grant-in-aide for the 2009-10 academic year are nearly $3 million and are projected to be $6 million by the 2014-15 academic year with the addition of football. These scholarships provide young men and women the opportunity to live out their dreams of competing in intercollegiate athletics and quite possibly, the dream of attending a university.
“We have started our ?Step Up’ campaign to encourage current donors to rise to the occasion and to become a part of this remarkable time in UTSA history”, UTSA Director of Athletics Lynn Hickey said. “’Step Up’ also encourages alumni, fans and friends of UTSA that are not Roadrunner Athletic Fund donors to join the effort to take UTSA Athletics to the next level of competition. Help us continue the athletic success of our sports programs and build a new tradition of Division I football in Texas.”
Gifts to the Roadrunner Athletic Fund are tax deductible and will earn donors loyalty points that will be used to determine priority and location for purchasing football season tickets, as well as other high-demand items such as NCAA Tournament and Final Four tickets. Above all, donors receive an enduring benefit of enhancing the quality of life of a student-athlete and UTSA Athletics.
“Whether your goal is to support our tremendous student-athletes or to be able to buy the best seats in the Alamodome for UTSA Football, making a gift today to the Roadrunner Athletic Fund is the absolute best way to be involved with UTSA Athletics,” said Andrew Haring, Executive Director of the Roadrunner Athletic Fund.
