SAN ANTONIO ? UTSA junior Shelly Martinez fired a two-under-par 69 on Sunday to finish off a nine-stroke victory at the Greater San Antonio Women’s Golf Championship held at Brackenridge Golf Course.
Martinez, who led from start to finish in the three-day tournament, entered the final day with a one-shot cushion over Ursula Perez of St. Mary's. The Pecos native used back-to-back birdies on Nos. 11 and 12 in posting her second sub-par round and finishing the 54-hole event at one-under 212. It was the second individual title of the year for Martinez, who captured medalist honors at the Stripes Islander Spring Classic on Feb. 24 in Corpus Christi as part of UTSA's spring campaign.
Junior Madison McClain carded a 78 and tied for fifth place with a 225, just four shots out of runner-up honors. Former UTSA standout and Southland Conference individual champion Allie Jordan turned in an 80 and tied for 10th at 231, while junior Kayla McBride finished in 12th place with a 237 after a final-round 81.
