FRISCO ? Senior Natalie Wallin and junior Holly Phillips were selected Capital One Bank/Southland Conference All-Academic first-team and senior Karen Scida earned second-team honors, the league office announced on Wednesday.
Wallin, who was first-team all-conference at No. 3 doubles, picked up her first career all-academic award with 3.41 grade-point-average in marketing. The Stockholm, Sweden, native went a perfect 10-0 mark at No. 3 doubles, while going 18-5 overall at No. 2 singles this season. Wallin tallied a 14-match winning streak from Jan. 24-March 18. She has been on the SLC Commissioner’s Cup honor roll list the last two seasons and on UTSA’s honor roll list the last four seasons.
Phillips, who was selected CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VI last week, earned her second straight all-academic honor with a team-best 3.91 gpa in biology. The Rochester, N.Y., native garnered first-team All-SLC at No. 4 singles and No. 3 doubles, respectively. Phillips posted a perfect 10-0 SLC mark at No. 3 doubles and recorded a career-high 18 singles wins. She logged in a career-best 16-match winning streak from Feb. 7 to April 10.
Scida, who was a first-team all-academic the last two seasons, collected her third consecutive honor as a second-team honoree. The Tucuman, Argentina, native registered a 3.86 gpa in chemistry. She appeared in all 24 matches and posted 12 singles wins and collected 11 doubles victories at No. 1.
