FRISCO ? Senior Andre Moreira collected Capital One Bank/Southland Conference Student-Athlete of the Year honors, the league office announced on Wednesday. It marks the first time in program history that a Roadrunner has collected the postseason accolade that honors the top academic/athletics performer.
Moreira, who was a first-team Academic All-SLC honoree last season, maintains a 3.78 grade-point-average in finance with a minor in Spanish. The Campinas, Brazil, native collected second-team all-conference honors at No. 2 singles this spring after posting a 10-8 overall record and a 4-1 mark in league matches. Moreira was tabbed as the league’s Player of the Week on March 31.
Meanwhile, sophomore Daniel Moreiras also collected first-team Academic All-SLC accolades after posting a 3.78 gpa in mechanical engineering. Moreiras closed out the season with a 13-7 doubles record to go along with a 7-12 mark in singles play. The San Antonio native went 7-3 at No. 3 doubles, including 3-1 in conference play.
