Hutson tabbed Southland Conference Hitter of the Week

Sophomore Ryan Hutson was 9-for-13 with four homers and 10 RBIs in the weekend sweep at McNeese State.

FRISCO ? Sophomore Ryan Hutson was tabbed Southland Conference Hitter of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.

Hutson was a one-man wrecking crew in leading UTSA to its third consecutive sweep of McNeese State last weekend. The Round Rock native hit a robust .638 (9-for-13) with six runs scored, a double, four home runs and 10 RBIs. He homered in all three contests, including two on Friday night, and took over the team lead with his 14th of the spring on Sunday, an inside-the-park two-run shot in the second inning. The second baseman now has left the park nine times in the last 11 contests.

He also recorded 22 total bases, which translated to a 1.692 slugging percentage, and reached base at a .733 clip.

Hutson opened the weekend with a 3-for-5, season-high five-RBI performance and followed that up by going a perfect 4-for-4 with a walk, double, three runs and three RBIs in Saturday’s 20-6 victory. He finished the weekend with two hits on Sunday.

His big weekend pushed his batting average to a season-best .329 and he has scored 42 times to go along with 12 doubles, a pair of triples, a team-leading 14 long balls and 38 RBIs. Hutson owns a .424 on-base percentage and is slugging .677, which ranks second on the squad.

He is the fourth Roadrunners honoree this spring, as senior Jose Hernandez was named Hitter of the Week on March 10 and 23 and sophomore Matt Crocker was the league's Pitcher of the Week on April 27.

UTSA (29-21) wraps up its current four-game road trip with a 3 p.m. contest at Dallas Baptist (35-14) on Tuesday. Freshman left-hander Casey Selsor (4-2, 7.36 ERA) will face righty Ben Palmer (2-1, 5.91).
