SAN ANTONIO ? The UTSA men’s tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to No. 42 Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in a Southland Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon at the UTSA Tennis Center.

The loss dropped the Roadrunners to 7-11 overall on the season and 3-2 in league contests, while the Islanders improved to 9-7 and a perfect 3-0 in conference action.

A&M-Corpus Christi came out strong, sweeping the doubles competition and taking the early 1-0 lead.

Junior Jorge Delgado and sophomore Daniel Moreiras fell to David Pace and James Langford at No. 3, 8-4. A few minutes later, sophomore Max Stratmann and freshman Pedro Zanotelli dropped their No. 2 contest with Laurent Montoisy and Jose Zunino, 8-6.

In singles action, Zanotelli dropped his No. 3 match to Montoisy, 6-3, 6-1. After Delgado dropped his No. 6 tilt, 7-5, 6-1, to Langford, the Roadrunners found themselves looking up from the bottom of a 3-0 hole.

The deficit proved to be too deep, as Moreiras lost his No. 4 match to Zunino, 6-4, 7-5, which clinched the victory for the Islanders.

UTSA’s lone point came when Stratmann knocked off Juame Farras at No. 5, 7-6 (8-6), 6-2.

“I think the guys are going to be a little more disappointed than I am,” head coach Dr. Oliver Trittenwein said. “They know the reality of what this match meant. The match was closer than the score tells. We had a shot in pretty much all of the matches, but it was a crucial point here and there that caused it to go another way."

The Roadrunners will be on the road next weekend in Birmingham, Ala., when they will play Samford and Alabama.
