Collins wraps up Southland Conference Championship in fourth place


Senior Kyle Collins finished his UTSA career with a fourth-place finish at this week's SLC Championship.

KERRVILLE ? Senior Kyle Collins ended his four-year UTSA stint with a fourth-place showing (214) in the individual standings of the Southland Conference Championship Wednesday afternoon.

The Roadrunners battled heavy winds throughout the day to end their championship run with a team total of 884 (298-285-301) and finish in fourth place in the team standings.

Collins fired a 75 on the last day of the championship en route to a two-under-par overall score. The San Antonio native rounded out the championship with nine birds over the three-day event, including three in the final round and recording his fourth top five outing of the year.

“The weather conditions were tough today and we knew that going intothe final round,” first-year head coach John Knauer said. “However, Ithought we were the fourth-best team this week and our guys showed it.Overall, I was pleased with our performance and am lookingforward to next season.”

Junior Emiliano Martinez posted a final round 74 to finish tied for 20th with a three-day tally of 223, while freshman Lewis Chong trailed Martinez by two strokes for a final score of 225.

Meanwhile, junior Ryan Kiel and freshman Payne Wilkie capped off their championship day with an overall scorecard of 227 and tied for 27th place.

Lamar claimed its fourth straight SLC championship after registering a final team tally of 292 for a final score of 859 (-5), while the individual title went to sudden death with Cedric Scotto of Southeastern Louisiana winning title over Zach Fischer of UT Arlington and Lamar’s Justin Harding with a three-round total of 212.
