UTSA to compete at Southland Conference Championship this week

SAN ANTONIO ? The UTSA men’s golf team will be looking for its first-ever Southland Conference Championship when they host the 2009 SLC Championship this week at Kerrville's Comanche Trace Golf Course (par 72/7,103 yards).

The 54-hole event opens on Monday and concludes two days later with the winning team earning the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Championship. Fans can follow all the action in real time by clicking here.

The Roadrunners closed out their regular season on April 16, with a 12th-place showing at the UMB Bank/Mizzou Tigers Classic. UTSA finished the two-day event with a final team scorecard of 926 (308-305-313). Junior Ryan Kiel led the way with his17th-place showing after shooting rounds of 75, 74 and 75 (224). It was his second top-20 performance of the spring.

The Birds finished fourth at last season’s league tournament with a three-day total of 896 at the Gray Plantation Golf Course in Lake Charles, La.
