CORPUS CHRISTI ? The UTSA women’s tennis team's season came to end on Sunday with a 4-0 loss against top seed UT Arlington in the championship match of the Southland Conference Tournament.

The Roadrunners finished the year with a 16-8 record, while the Mavericks improved to 16-7 in earning the league’s automatic berth to the NCAA Championships.

UTA opened the contest by winning the doubles point with wins at the top two spots.

Daiana Negreanu and Klara Jagsova blanked senior Karen Scida and freshman Micaela Silva, 8-0, at the No. 1 slot and the Mavs clinched the point when Maria Martinez-Romer and Nicola Matovivoa posted an 8-2 win against senior Monika Drabkova and sophomore Caroline Dedering.

UT Arlington extended its lead when Martinez-Romer handed Dedering a straight-sets defeat (6-2, 6-2) at the No. 5 position. Monika Hadvigerova then pushed the advantage to 3-0 with her 6-2, 6-4 win against Scida at the No. 1 spot. The Mavericks clinched the match a few minutes later when Jagsova came off the court with a 6-0, 6-4 victory against junior Holly Phillips at the No. 3 slot.
