CORPUS CHRISTI ? The No. 3-seeded UTSA men’s tennis team was bounced out of the Southland Conference Tournament on Friday with a 4-2 defeat at the hands of No. 6 Nicholls.
The match started off well for the Roadrunners, as they jumped ahead 1-0 by taking the doubles point.
Senior Andre Moreira and junior Rodrigo Morgado defeated Abhaya Prakash and Radu Ionescu, 8-1, at the top spot, while junior Jorge Delgado and sophomore Daniel Moreiras sealed the point when they knocked out Rohan Shetty and Sami Mouline, 8-3, at the bottom of the card.
At No. 6 singles, Delgado made quick work of Mouline, winning 6-3, 6-2, giving UTSA a 2-0 lead, but the Birds dropped the next four matches on their way to the two-point loss.
Moreira fell to Ionescu at No. 2, 6-1, 6-3, while freshman Pedro Zanotelli lost his No. 3 contest, 6-4, 6-3, to Eric Fisher. Moreiras dropped his No. 3 match, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) and sophomore Max Stratmann took his No. 5 match to a third-set tiebreak, but he could not hang on, losing 4-6, 7-6 (7-4), 6-7 (6-8).
