UTSA concludes regular season with 7-0 loss at UT Arlington

ARLINGTON ? UTSA women’s tennis finished its regular season with a 7-0 loss at UT Arlington on Saturday.

The Roadrunners concluded conference play with an 8-3 record and at 14-7 overall, while the Mavericks (14-6) completed a perfect 11-0 conference slate to win the league title.

It was a tough start for UTSA, as the Mavericks grabbed the doubles point.

Senior Nathalie Wallin and junior Holly Phillips extended their winning streak to a dozen with a 9-8 victory against Monika Hadvigerova and Katarina Micochova. The senior-freshman duo Karen Scida and Micaela Silva fell 8-4 to Klara Jagosova and Daiana Negreanu and the point was decided when Maria Martinez-Romer and Nikola Matovicova claimed an 8-4 triumph over senior Monika Drabkova and sophomore Caroline Dedering.

Things didn’t get easier for the Roadrunners in singles play.

Scida fell to Hadvigerova in consecutive 6-3 sets at the No. 1 spot, while Wallin was outplayed by Negreanu, 4-6, 6-4, 10-4. Phillips then saw her 16-match winning streak come to an end with a 6-2, 6-4 setback against Jagosova. Drabkova lost in straight sets to Micochova at the No. 4 spot (6-3, 6-3), while Martinez-Romer extended her winning streak to 16 with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Dedering. Meanwhile, Matovicova completed the shutout with a 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 win against Silva.

UTSA will be back in action in two weeks at the Southland Conference Tournament in Corpus Christi (April 24-26).
