FRISCO ? Junior Holly Phillips was named Southland Conference’s Women’s Tennis Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.
She is the third UTSA player to win the award this month, as seniors Nathalie Wallin and Karen Scida received the honor on March 3 and 10, respectively.
The Rochester, N.Y., native extended her winning streaks in singles and doubles play to 13 and eight matches, respectively, during the Roadrunners’ conference two-game road trip at Lamar (March 28) and at McNeese State (March 29).
She pushed her winning streak to 12 in a row with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Manijee Ashrafi in No. 4 singles on Saturday in Beaumont. Phillips also teamed up with Wallin for a 9-8, pro-set victory at No. 3 doubles.
She then led the way in the Birds' 7-0 shutout of the Cowgirls on Sunday. Phillips scored a 6-1 victory against Tea Tvrtokovic at the No. 4 slot to push her streak to 13 wins in a row. She once again paired up with Wallin to claim an 8-2 victory in No. 3 doubles.
UTSA will host a pair of SLC matches this weekend, first against Sam Houston State on Saturday and the following day against Stephen F Austin.
