Roadrunners in fourth place at Carter Plantation Intercollegiate

Junior Emiliano Martinez is tied with teammate senior Kyle Collins for third place at the Carter Plantation Intercollegiate.

SPRINGFIELD, La. ? Senior Kyle Collins and junior Emiliano Martinez are tied for third place after shooting day-one totals of 148 on Monday to lead the UTSA men’s golf team to a fourth-place showing (306-304=610) at the Carter Plantation Intercollegiate.

“The course played very hard today and the wind was howling,” head coach John Knauer said. “Kyle and Emiliano played very solid. Ryan played well enough to compete, but he was unable to convert on some shots. Although Payne and Lewis did not score well, they definitely learned a lot. That will pay off for them in the future.”

Collins shot a 75 in the first round and improved by two in the next round, while Martinez registered a 76 in the opening round and he followed that with an even-par. Junior Ryan Kiel fired a 77-78=155 and is tied 27th place.

Texas State leads the team standings with a 589, while Jeff Gerlich (Texas State) sits a top of the individual leader board with a 69-67=136.

The Roadrunners return to the links on Tuesday morning for the final 18 holes.
