SPRINGFIELD, La. ? Senior Kyle Collins recorded his first top-five performance of the season with a final-round 72 on Tuesday at the Carter Plantation Intercollegiate on Tuesday.
Collins finished the two-day event with a three-round scorecard of 220 (75-73-72) and he led the Roadrunners to a seventh-place showing with a final team total of 916 (306-304-306). Texas State claimed the title with an 881 (291-298-292) and the Bobcats held off Louisiana-Lafayette by four strokes. Jeff Gerlich of Texas State picked up the individual medal after shooting under par in all three rounds for a 208.
Junior Emiliano Martinez recorded his best finish of the spring with his 11th-place performance after shooting a 78 in the third round for a 226 tally. Meanwhile, junior Ryan Kiel registered a two-day total of 232 (77-78-77) and tied for 31st. Freshman Payne Wilkie and sophomore Lewis Chong also were in action and the pair ended their tournament with two-day totals of 242 and 246, respectively.
UTSA is back in action next week at the Diet Pepsi Shockers Classic in Wichita, Kan.
