IRVINE, Calif. ? Led by a runner-up performance in the triple jump by sophomore RebekahHill, the UTSA women’s track and field team opened the outdoor campaignwith a solid showing at the UC Irvine Spring Break Invitational, which was held this weekend at Anteater Stadium.

Hill skipped to a 37-2 ? measurement to secure the silver in the triple jump, one of three top-five finishes by a partial squad of Roadrunners. Kim Lienhoop of Cornell took top honors with a mark of 37-4 ?.

On the track, senior Ashley Jackson sped to a 12.23 clocking for fourth place in the 100 meters, while junior Jessica Jones skimmed the 100m hurdles in 14.39 to also finish fourth. Freshman Kayla Pratt posted a 10:12.08 to take 15th in a loaded 3,000m field.

In the field, senior Shanelle Slaughter leaped to a sixth-place measure of 17-11 ? in the long jump, while a pair of hammer throwers moved into the school’s all-time top five performers list. Freshman Amber Byars heaved the implement 134-8 (41.04m) to finish ninth and make her the program’s No. 2 performer behind Natasha Ramos (43.47m), while sophomore Taelor Wilson was 11th with a 129-4 (39.42m) effort to make her fourth all-time.

The Roadrunners will host the UTSA Relays on Friday-Saturday, March 27-28, at Blossom Stadium in San Antonio.
