Freshman Caitlyn Ivy launched the first home run of her career on Sunday.

HAMMOND, La. ? Sophomore Emily Humpal tossed her second straight complete-game gem and freshman Caitlyn Ivy hit her first collegiate home run to lift UTSA to a 1-0 victory over Southeastern Louisiana on Sunday afternoon at North Oak Park.

The Roadrunners improved to 14-13 overall and 9-6 in Southland Conference play in winning their 10th league series in the past 12 tries dating back to last March. The Lady Lions fell to 10-17 and 1-11.

Humpal struck out seven batters, issued three walks and allowed just two hits in tossing her second complete game of the series. She ran her record to 8-6 and finished the three-game set with 13 Ks and only three hits allowed in 14 innings.

Meanwhile, Ivy made the most of her first start since Feb. 13 (Mississippi) by slugging her first home run in a UTSA uniform. She led off the fifth inning by sending a 1-0 pitch from SLU reliever Katelyn Thomason over the fence in left center field.

UTSA had a chance to add to its lead in the sixth after singles from freshman Amber Anderson and sophomore Danye Holmes put runners at first and third with two down, but Thomason got out of the jam with a groundout.

The Lady Lions threatened twice during the game, loading the bases in both the second and sixth innings. Humpal fanned Amber Freeman to end the second and induced a ground ball off the bat of Allyson McCubbins to get out of the sixth.

Thomason, who tossed a one-hitter yesterday in SLU’s 2-1 victory, fell to 3-3 after giving up one run on four hits in 4.2 innings of relief.

The Roadrunners will open a nine-game homestand with a non-conference doubleheader against UTEP at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, March 24.
