IRVINE, Calif. ? The UTSA men's track & field team opened its outdoor campaign with six top-three finishes at this weekend's UC Irvine Spring Break Invitational.
Leading the way was senior Tommy Wolfe, who raced to a personal-best 15.11 in winning his 110-meter hurdles heat by nearly a full second and he finished second overall. Wolfe then went on to place fourth in the javelin with another career-best (195-5/59.56m).
A pair of Roadrunners ? junior Johnathan Whittaker and freshman Jeffery Herron ? tied for runner-up honors in the high jump with their NCAA Regional clearances of 6-10 ? (2.10m). Other silver medal performances included sophomore Kevin Hunt in the 100m (10.95) and freshman Greg Gabrisch in the pole vault (14-7 ?/4.45m).
Meanwhile, senior Gaston Griffin circled the Anteater Stadium track in 47.90 to place third in the 400m.
The Roadrunners return to the track next weekend when they host the 10th annual UTSA Relays at Blossom Stadium. The two-day event gets underway on Friday, March 27.
