ARLINGTON ? Right-handed starter Andy Sauter pitched eight innings with a career-high nine strikeouts to lead UT Arlington to a 5-3 victory against UTSA (9-5, 2-2 SLC) on Saturday at Clay Gould Ballpark.
After giving up five hits in the opening two innings, Sauter (1-1)settled in, allowing just three hits the rest of the way. He improved asthe game went on, tallying a pair of strikeouts in the fifth, seventhand eighth innings.
Chad Comer drove in the tying run with a two-out single in the sixth before Michael Choice scored the eventual game-winning run with a full-count, two-out single up the middle one inning later.
Jason Mitchell pitched the ninth to pick up his first career save, as the Mavericks (6-9, 1-3 SLC) won the first of the three-game Southland Conference series. The game was postponed two days ago due to heavy rain in the Metroplex.
